Indochine (Restaurant)

Looking for a South Eastern cuisine other than the Singaporean or Nyonya but more of Indochina (Thai, Vietnamese) food?
This restaurant may be the fit especially dining with special guests either on business or private occasion.
The main restaurant is located just next to the Asian Civilization museum, which is across the river from Battery Road or Boat quay strip.
They offer the river terrace seat without shelter or air conditioned indoor seat.
It is interesting to see most westerner prefer the terrace whereas most Asians prefer indoor.
Anyway the menus well organized, in categories of appetizer, soup, main and desert, with not much category between countries. I would just recommend whatever looks nice. They also offer some variety of wines.

Kotobuki

Looking for relaxing Izakaya style Authentic Japanese food in CBD with reasonable price? I would nominate this Kotobuki as first candidate. It is in the ground floor of Axa Bldg (former Temasek Bldg?) in 8 Shenton Way.
One interesting feature is their dinner menu board. While they list all the menu, the shop added extra comment in a very interesting way; e.g.) 'one night dried pufferfish' - you can consume more alcohol, 'chicken gristle ' - love me to my bone.
The cheerful ladies will give you advice if you are not sure what to order.

Cheng Li Restaurant

One of the most economic restaurant with reasonable main land Chinese dishes that I ever encountered in Singapore is this Cheng Li Restaurant along historic& posh Tanjong Pagar Road.
I would not say the outlook of restaurant fancy but do not be haste to make the judgement; food quality is quite good for casual dining. The shop seems to be run by Chinese mainlanders and they do bring the taste and price and service on the table. Oh so do not expect them speak fluent English or Singlish but just try to point out what you like. You will know what I mean when you see the dishes and the bill. 4 person with 5 bottles of beer only cost 96 dollars!

Food court in Plaza Indonesia

One of the largest shopping mall in Jakarta offers the largest all inclusive food court in this city. It hosts many international fast food chains. What is good is that this is tourist/foreigner friendly. No worries for hygiene, choice of food.

Mangrove boat cruise in Langkawi

This is another recommended day tour while your stay in Langkawi: Mangrove boat cruise. The tour will be in 10 persons per boat. We joined with group from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UK and Malaysia.
The highlight is the monkey feeding bat cave visit, fish farm feeding and optional white beach drop off.

Pulau Payar Marine Park (@Langkawi)

Coming for snorkeling or scuba diving near Singapore? I would say Langkawi is one candidate for this objective. What we did is to go through local travel agent in one of the advertisement in local map and signed up. It will be a day trip from morning to mid afternoon: 08:00am pickup and send back to hotel around 16:00. The package includes transportation, lunch rental of snorkeling. The diving spot is one hour ship travel from main harbor in Langkawi island. The water quality, environment is good to enjoy a fun dive or snorkeling only.

The Rink (@JCube)

The latest Ice Skating Rink is open in the new JCube shopping mall in Jurong East area (in walking distance from Jurong East MRT station).
The olympic size rink offers two hour slots for all participants, with option of rental shoes, gloves and socks. The rink condition is quite nice compared to the one in Kallang.
One thing you may want to be aware is the rental shoes. Since the shoes are new and stiff, it may cause to make a blister on your feet. Make sure you have thick socks, or best to bring your own shoes.

Food Court in Paragon Siam

Wondering in Siam area, I found a gigantic food court + Restaurant area on Ground Floor of Paragon Siam. You need to buy a coupon for food court usage. Food variety varies but a lot focuses on Thai style hot pot. For note, I am pretty surprised with the variety of Japanese food available, both food court and restaurant area.

Chao Phraya River bus cruise + Royal Palace

Chao Phraya River is a major river running through Bangkok. From the BTS station above east bank of the river, you can embark the water bus. Be aware that local water bus pier and private hire pier is similar and can be confusing. The one you see with the booth is the right one. We bought the tourist use one day pass for 150 Bahts per head, and hopped on the express way (shown in Orange Flag on the tip of each vessel). Each stop is marked alphanumeric (e.g. N8). At N8 stop you can either walk of hop on the TukTuk to the royal palace. I was with group of 5, so was hard to negotiate. Eventally we took their initial offer of 50 Bhats for single ride.
The Royal palace is accessible free of charge but if you wish to see the inner circle, you need to pay 400 Bahts per head (for those under 120cm is free of charge). Another thing you need to be aware of is your attire. No short pants is allowed. They can lend you the clothes to cover. But the queue for this service seems to be very long, so I recommend you to be prepared beforehand.
The whole place does not have any aircon besides the textile shop aside the entrance so I warn you to be prepared to the sizzling heat in and out of the area.
To get a taxi from this place may be another difficult job. I had to negotiate 10 taxis until I bumped into a normal one who would just charge by meters. The worst one you want to engage yourselves is the one who would drop by at souvenir shop. This is very tricky.

Sun sutra @Langkawi

During our stay in Langkawi, this was the most memorable one we ever visited. Located in a quiet suburb of Pangtai Tengah, the restaurant offers a very good mix of tropical yet but chic western style decor.
